Well, we are smack dab in the middle of summer. During this time of the year, I sometimes feel so far removed from my favorite holiday (Halloween of course!) that it takes something big to jolt me back into the creatively creepy corners of my mind. We’ll today that jolt was a movie called The Horror Of It All (1964). I actually caught the movie right in the middle…at a scene where the main character played by Pat Boone sings a fun little horror song aptly named “The Horror Of It All”. I was immediately reminded of what I had been missing this summer…a little bit of old fashioned horror and halloween inspiration. Without further ado, here is my summer movie review. Continue reading

Classic Monsters in Hawaiian Tiki Style
Aloha! I just returned from a wonderful week long vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii. Most of my time was spent exploring the rugged lava coastline, swimming in warm ocean currents, and relaxing on beaches as tropical trade winds careened me to sleep. After seeing a few tikis on the island and learning about ancient Hawaiian archaeology, I began to wonder if the Hawaiians had any “monsters” in their local lore. I am aware they had many gods such as Pele goddess of fire, but wondered if there were darker more evil things that they feared. I realized I could quickly find the answer in Google, but promised myself I would try to stay disconnected from technology as much as possible while on vacation. So it remained a fun mystery to me. One day while I was browsing through some local artwork in downtown Kona, I came across this tiki art!
It was perfect! This might not be traditional at all, but I loved seeing four classic monsters totally getting their Hawaiian tiki groove on! The artist is Brad Parker and apparently he is a renowned local Hawaiian tiki artist. The color is just so nice, and totally appropriate for Hawaii. Seeing these four guys totally satisfied my monster cravings while in Hawaii. If you’d like to check out his artwork, visit his website www.tikishark.com.
Coffee Shop Magic
In this video, a wonderfully staged prank is set up for some unsuspecting patrons of a coffee shop in NYC. The prank was done to help promote the movie release of the 2013 Carrie remake. The best thing about pranks like these are the people’s reactions. I think if I was in this situation, I’d run first then ask questions later.
Beware Of The Devil Baby
With the holidays behind us now, we can all take a well deserved rest and catch up on all those youtube videos we haven’t gotten around to watching yet. To start you off , check out this video of the Devil Baby Attack! I’ve seen some pretty good pranks, but this one is elaborate and hilarious! Just watch innocent bystanders approach this baby carriage only to find a seething evil devil baby inside. The baby hisses and spits up green stuff Exorcist style, while onlookers scream horrified. The carriage is also motorized and can chase people via remote control. That must have been a blast to watch this scene unfold live!
Carols for the Horror Fan
Not quite in the Christmas spirit yet? Still hungover from another great Halloween season? A surprising way to help you to ease into it is to pick up a book by Michael P. Spradlin called “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Zombies!” This frightfully delightful book has 2 dozen Zombie carols. For example, Deck The Halls With Parts Of Wally, and I Saw Mama Chewing Santa Claus are only a few of the twisted carols sung from a Zombie point of view. The book also has wonderfully gory illustrations from artist Jeff Weigel. It’s a good Christmas gift idea for that hard to shop for horror fan!
