This is the third part of the horror highlights you may have missed this year at San Diego Comic Con! Enjoy…
Terrifying Toys
Its such a fun part of the Comic Con experience to roam the floors and search out the latest horror toy releases. This year, NECA’s Comic-Con exclusive was Gizmo, everyone’s favorite little mogwai. For a mere $20, Gizmo came with sunglasses, his own little lanyard and Comic-Con attendance badge, and a Comic-Con tote bag. Don’t worry…you can still find them for sale on eBay. NECA’s booth also displayed some seriously scary Evil Dead 2 action figure sets all scheduled for release in 2012. These three sets include Hero Ash, Deadite Ash, and Farewell To Arms.
Remember in the first Nightmare on Elm Street, when Freddy appeared in Tina’s dream, his arms stretched out from wall to wall in the dark alleyway? (God that was freaky). Well NECA has recreated this scene as part of their Nightmare on Elm Street figure set. Series 1 is due for release August 2011 and Series 2 will be available this October.
NECA also released an exclusive 6.5″ The Walking Dead Deer Eating Zombie Mini Bust. What makes it cool, besides the awesome design, is that its limited edition (only 1200 total) and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist Greg Nicotero. There were two other busts inspired by the series: The Tank Zombie Mini Bust, and the Bicycle Girl Zombie Mini Bust.
Some other interesting toy news…there was a poster in the NECA booth announcing Valve’s Left4Dead “Boomer” and “Smoker” action figures that will be available sometime in 2012. How awesome is that?
NECA is not the only company releasing great horror-related toys. Bif Bang Pow! showcased a box set containing two William Shatners! That’s right, actually its two of William Shatner’s characters from two different episodes of The Twilight Zone. Bif Bang Pow! also had a bobble-head of the classic Twilight Zone door surrounded by a UFO, eyeball, E=mc squared…as an homage to the classic show’s opening. Honorable mention is Bif Bang Pow!’s release of a Dexter action figure, everyone’s favorite serial killer.
Finally, no show is complete without some Ghostbusters gear. You might think you have the best Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in town, but you might not have this behemoth of a toy! The one sold at Comic Con was 20″ tall and sold for $70 big ones.
