In Southern California even in the middle of summer, you can find halloween inspiration. This year’s Midsummer Scream 2019 certainly did not disappoint. Ghouls, macabre artwork, haunted walkthroughs, and horror celebrities seemed to occupy every inch of the Long Beach Convention Center. Take a peak at a few of the scenes I captured from this year’s Midsummer Scream 2019!
Horror Themed Art
One of the best things about the Midsummer Scream Horror and Halloween convention is the number of artists who display their creepy creations for spectators to buy. The artwork is always so unique and interesting. Just look at this tiki themed sleestak below.
I go to this convention every year and totally wish I had a massive house and bank account to be able to display all the incredible artwork. For now I will settle with pictures and keeping my eye out for the occasional piece that “I just gotta have”!
Horror Movie Props
It’s amazing that Ghostbusters is still so popular. I’ll go one step further. It seems now it’s a permanent fixture in the Halloween culture. I’m find with that since it was absolutely one of my favorite movies and comedies of the 80’s.
Horror Movie Celebrities
At every Midsummer Scream there are lots of celebrities sitting at tables hoping you’ll recognize them enough to buy a photo to be autographed. As I was walking from one booth to the next I immediately recognized the blonde girl from the movie A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. I started to talk with her and noticed that the entire cast (now well over 50 years old) was sitting next to her. Wow! It’s amazing to see one of your horror movie favorites come to life with the cast right in front of you.
CalHaunts 2019 Walk Through
I can’t forget to mention the CalHaunts display area for 2019. Each year this group puts an enormous amount of effort into building an elaborate horror walk through attraction. This year’s theme was tiki horror. As you walked through it appeared as though a plane had crashed on a remote tropical island. Unfortunately any survivors were met by haunted tiki demons who had taken over the area. The image above is just two of those demons enjoying the destruction they had caused. It was really amazing work! That’s it from Midsummer Scream 2019!
