Time For A Haircut Dusty

If your ever at Balboa Beach in California, walk down Main Street to J.J.’s Haircutting and you’ll see this picture planted right in the front window. Look at the guy in the first frame. Kinda looks like a hippie from the late 60’s early 70’s? Well, that picture has been hanging proudly at J.J.’s Haircutting for as long as I can remember. I found an old news article from 1978 and the picture was there! When I was a little girl, Balboa was our beach. Every summer, a family trip to Balboa included a walk along Main Street, maybe an Orange Julius from the corner shop that is no longer there, and a gander at the “Werewolf Man”. Of course we were referring to this picture. It kinda creeped me out when I was young, yet, we always had to visit it. And to this day the “Dusty The Fox” picture still hangs proudly in the window! Thanks J.J’s for keeping up the tradition!

Hmmm… I know a few guys who are somewhere between frames 2 and 3…Should I be worried?

Laser Vortex Prop: Gathering Supplies

laservortex1

This year I decided I wanted to make a really cool new prop for my yard haunt. Something that wouldn’t put me out financially and something that wouldn’t be too complicated or difficult to build. I found a fantastic prop idea from the Garage Of Evil website. A laser vortex…no, not a flex capacitor…a LASER VORTEX! The parts are actually very cheap and most can be purchased from Radio Shack. The only tools I had to buy was a Dremel tool (I’ve always wanted one), and a soldering gun kit. Now I’m ready to go. I’ll keep you updated through future posts on the build phase and test phase of this project.

Buy Some Haunted Portraits

portrait

Last Halloween I bought three of the scariest portraits I’ve ever owned. Your looking at one of them above. These are part of a series called “Haunted Memories Changing Portraits” created by a truly incredible artist named Eddie Allen. You might be familiar with the changing photographs in the Disney’s Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland. Remember the pretty lady whose hair turns into snakes? Eddie uses a similar type of technology along with creativity and artistry to turn antique photographs into something much more frightening. He began his first design in 2003 and has added many portraits for purchase since then. He can even create you a custom haunted photograph. Of course you must be on his waiting list because he only does a few customs a year. Browse through his gallery and buy one if you dare!

Create A Killer Yard Haunt

yardhaunt

I’ve always wanted to do one of those really cool yard haunts for Halloween. Problem is…I never had a yard of my own. Since AFFORDABLE quality homes are still somewhat of a fiction in Southern California, I’ve decided to quit waiting and invite myself to my brothers house for Halloween this year. His home has great front yard haunt potential! Since this is my first attempt, I’ll share with you some great resources and ideas for how you can create a killer halloween yard haunt. Continue reading
