Red Room Riddle…rocks!

For any of you who were fortunate enough to watch Saturday morning cartoons in the 80’s, this one’s for you. I haven’t seen this episode of the ABC Weekend Specials since I was about 10 years old. But I never forgot most of these stories. Like many things in the early 80’s (TV shows, commercials, toys, cartoons) I still have fond memories. This particular episode “Red Room Riddle” was especially cool. Two boys are on a dare to enter a supposedly haunted old house. While exploring the grounds, they meet a boy and his menacing dog. They boy invites them to return at night so they can enter the house. Of course the boys return and enter the spooky house. However, this is where things begin to go wrong for them. One thing leads to another and they eventually have to find their way out of …..wait for it….The Red Room! I always thought this story was told very well, and even watching it now, it totally holds my attention. No wonder it appealed to me….haunted houses, mysteries, kids getting into adventures. Totally brings back memories..not that I’ve been in many real haunted houses…at least I don’t think I have. Anyway, enjoy this little treat. It is a 3 part video on youtube so be sure to watch them all.

Footnote: Billy Jayne is the older dark haired boy you might remember from the 80’s movie “Just One Of The Guys”. And the kid with the hat is Christian Hoff, who won a Tony award for his role in the Broadway musical Jersey Boys! Interesting to see where people’s careers take them.

Halloween TV Specials 2010

I could very easily go into a rant about how Halloween TV specials today are nothing like they used to be back in the late 70’s early 80’s. But I wont. There are plenty of other blogs that do that. Instead I will do something productive and share with you something I wish I had found at the beginning of the month. TVtango.com compiled a fantastic list of Halloween-themed specials, marathons, and episodes for the entire month of October. This list is fantastic and very thorough. So if you have nothing else to do this Halloween…take comfort that there is still something to watch on TV. Here are some TV episode recommendations:

  • Modern Family Halloween Episode, Wed Oct 27, ABC 9pm ET

The Walking Dead are Among Us!

I’m not kidding! Hundreds of zombies will be flooding the streets of major cities during morning commute peak hours on Tuesday Oct 26, 2010. The invasions will be starting at daybreak in Taipei and Hong Kong, moving across the globe, to Istanbul, Madrid, Munich, London, Sao Paolo, Buenos Aires, New York City and Los Angeles, among others. Be extra careful if you are around any of the world’s major landmarks, including the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, the Lincoln Monument in Washington D.C., Big Ben in London, the Prado Museum in Madrid, the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul, and the Acropolis in Athens. The zombie invasion is expected in 26 cities. Continue reading
